These coins were struck in the same order as parks were designated a national site, beginning first with Arkansas’ Springs National Park. The coin features an image of the world-famous hot spring fountain.
The second coin highlights Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming, where a buffalo wanders next to Old Faithful The next coin travels to California, with a view of Yosemite National Park from Tunnel View. The Grand Canyon is honored with a depiction of the steep layered canyon wall and the Colorado River flowing at the bottom. The fifth coin showcases the cool mountain air outside Mount Hood National Park in Oregon, with an image of the mountain in the distance and a lake near the viewer.
Each coin says the name of the national site as well as the state, the year, and “E Pluribus Unum” on the rim. The reverse shows President George Washington in a restored version of the original portrait used for the 1932 Washington Quarter.
