The Gold Libertad was first issued by the Mexican Mint in 1981, drawing design inspiration from a classic coin minted 60 years earlier. The modern Gold Libertad design was based on the Gold Centenario, a coin originally struck in 1921. Still released annually in limited quantities, the Gold Libertad remains one of the lowest-minted bullion coins on the market. Right now, Provident Metals has the 2010 Mexican Libertad 1 oz Gold Coin available for purchase.

Highlights:

  • Ships in a protective plastic flip!
  • 15th issue of the 1 oz Gold Libertad Coin!
  • Limited mintage of just 4,000 coins!
  • Contains 1 Troy oz of .999 pure gold.
  • Obverse features Mexicos national coat of arms.
  • Reverse shows the Winged Victory statue.

The 1 oz version has been struck in limited years1981, 1991 to 1994, and every year from 2000 onward. Of all these years, the first release in 1981 saw the highest production, with 596,000 coins struck.

Obverse

On the obverse of the 2010 Mexican Libertad Gold Coin, the coin displays the Mexican coat of arms. The current version features a golden eagle battling a snake atop a prickly pear cactus, with oak and laurel branches below. Around this central design, youll also see ten historic versions of the seal arranged along the edge. Inscriptions here read ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS.

Reverse

The reverse of 2010 Libertad 1 oz Gold Coins shows the statue of Winged Victory, a monument constructed during the centennial in 1921. The figure at the top is based on Nike, the Greek goddess of victory. Behind her are the volcanic mountains Popocatpetl and Iztacchuatl, important landmarks in Mexican culture. The inscriptions here read 1 ONZA, ORO PURO, 2010 LEY .999, and the Mo mint mark.

History

The design of the Gold Libertad goes back to the Gold Centenario, created in 1921 for the 100th anniversary of Mexicos independence from Spain. The Centenario was introduced as a tribute to national history and identity, and its release coincided with large celebrations across the country.
