The 2010 US Mint Silver Proof ATB Sets arrive in their original mint packaging which features a protective hard plastic case with an outer box. The coins, in their hard plastic case, are well protected and will be in good condition. It may be possible that the outer box will show some signs of wear and tear.

Obverse

The obverse design on every America the Beautiful Quarter is the same, a left-facing portrait of President George Washington. The US Mint held a competition in 1932 to create a design for the Washington Silver Quarter. The winning design was created by John Flanagan. His design was deemed to be such a classic that it has been on the obverse of the Washington Quarter ever since. The US Mint slightly modified the design in 1999 for its 50 State Quarters Program. The US Mint later reverted the design back to John Flanagans original design for use in the ATB Quarters Program.

Reverse

The reverse designs of the 56 America the Beautiful Quarters Program coins are unique. The 5 quarters in this 2010 initial Proof Set offering have reverse designs that feature the following national treasures – Hot Springs National Park in Arkansas, Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming, Yosemite National Park in California, Grand Canyon National Park in Arizona, and Mt. Hood National Forest in Oregon.

History

The Act creating the America the Beautiful Quarters Program was charged with honoring a national park or national site in each state, the District of Columbia, and select US territories. These parks or sites were to be of natural or historic significance within the specific jurisdiction. The sites were expected to be able to translate into a design that would be distinctive and easily recognizable. The quarters were released in the order in which the national park or national site was established as such. The ATB Quarters were to be issued at a rate of 5 new designs per year.
