The 2010 Proof American Eagle Gold Series saw all four weights return from a one-year hiatus in 2009 and resulted in all four at least doubling the previous mintage figures since in 2008 before the hiatus. When you purchase a 2010-W Proof American Eagle 1/10 oz Gold Coin in this Provident Metals listing, you will receive a coin that earned a perfect certification from the PCGS. Coins in PR70 condition showcase full, original mint luster and have no detractions of any kind present. The coins have also been designated DCAM specimens. DCAM stands for deep-cameo proof and refers to coins that have strong, frosted designs over deeply-mirrored, clear fields.

Obverse

The obverse side of 2010-W Proof American Eagle Gold Coins comes with a full-length figure of Lady Liberty. Designed in 1907 by Augustus Saint-Gaudens, it features Liberty in front-facing relief as she walks toward the viewer with a torch in her right hand and an olive branch in her left. The field includes images of the U.S. Capitol Building, sun rays, and a ring of 50 stars. Inscriptions read LIBERTY, 2010, and the W mint mark of the West Point Mint.

Reverse

On the reverse field of the 2010-W Proof American Eagle 1/10 oz Gold Coin, you will find an image of the bald eagle family. Created in 1986 by Miley Busiek, the design shows a male bald eagle as it flies over the nest with a branch in its talons. Within the nest, a female eagle guards over hatchlings. The inscriptions on this side include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, IN GOD WE TRUST, and 1/10 OZ. FINE GOLD 5 DOLLARS.

History

The 2010 Proof American Eagle Gold release resulted in a surge in demand after none of the coins were issued in 2009. The 1/10 oz gold coin jumped from a mintage of 28,116 in 2008 to 54,285 coins in 2010. Much of this jump was a result of pent-up demand with no release in 2009. Starting in 2011, the series entered an extended period of slumping demand with mintages falling much lower than any previous time in the programs history.
