Although the 1/4 oz was not released until 1988, it quickly became among the most popular in the collection. 2010 marked the second consecutive release of the four coins of the Proof Gold Eagle ranged in which the 1/4 oz coin was in the lowest demand. Obverse
The obverse of the 2010 Proof American Eagle 1/4 oz Gold Coin features an iconic design of Lady Liberty. She is shown walking towards the viewer holding a torch in her right hand and an olive branch in her left. This design of Lady Liberty was created by Saint-Gaudens in 1904 at the request of President Theodore Roosevelt in hopes of modernizing the countrys coin design. The obverse also includes the United State Capitol Building in the background and 50 stars surrounding outside of these coins.
Reverse
On the reverse of these coins, you will see an image only featured on the Gold Eagles from the U.S. Mint. A male eagle flies over the family nest while a single hatchling lies under the female eagles wing for protection. This image was designed by Miley Busiek.

Proof American Eagle Gold Coins were introduced in three stages. The 1/4 oz coin was released last in 1988 along with the 1/10 oz. The 1/4 oz gold coins were among the most popular in this collection between 1988 and 2006.
