The US Mints First Spouse Series honors the First Ladies who supported the nations presidents during their time in office. For presidents who were unmarried or widowed, the Mint instead features a design of Lady Liberty from a historic American coin. Right now, Provident Metals offers 2010-W US Mint First Spouse Buchanans Liberty 1/2 oz Gold Coins in perfect condition.
Highlights:
Each 2010-W US Mint First Spouse Buchanans Liberty 1/2 oz Gold Coin has been graded MS70, meaning it has no visible imperfections and retains its original luster. The coin is securely housed in a protective holder, and its label has been hand-signed by David Hall, a co-founder of the Professional Coin Grading Service.
Obverse
On the obverse of the 2010-W US Mint First Spouse Buchanans Liberty Gold Coin, youll find a classic depiction of Lady Liberty. This left-profile design was created by Christian Gobrecht in 1836 and was previously featured on several US gold coins, including the Eagle, Half Eagle, and Quarter Eagle. Inscriptions include LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST, 1857, 1861, 2010, 15TH PRESIDENCY, and the W mint mark.
Reverse
The reverse of the 2010-W First Spouse Buchanans Liberty 1/2 oz Gold Coin depicts a young James Buchanan working as a bookkeeper at his familys small store in Pennsylvania. Before his political career, Buchanan built a name for himself as a respected lawyer in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Inscriptions read UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, $10, 1/2 OZ., and .9999 FINE GOLD.
History
James Buchanan, the 15th President of the United States, was the only lifelong bachelor to serve in the office. Because there was no First Lady during his presidency, this release in the First Spouse Series features an image of Lady Liberty instead. Buchanan had an extensive political career before becoming president, holding roles such as US Congressman, Senator, Secretary of State, and Ambassador to Russia and the United Kingdom.
