Obverse
The obverse of the 2011 Glacier Montana silver quarter provides a familiar design. It features John Flanagan’s portrait of George Washington, an image that’s been used on the quarter frequently since 1932. The first president is surrounded by the traditional inscriptions, which include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, QUARTER DOLLAR, LIBERTY and IN GOD WE TRUST.

Reverse
The reverse of the coin was designed by Barbara Fox and then sculpted by Mint sculptor Charles Vickers. It’s an incredibly detailed depiction of a scene Fox imagined one might find in Glacier National Park: A mountain goat above the forested valley with Mount Reynolds in the background. Inscriptions surround the nature scene, spelling out GLACIER, MONTANA and E PLURIBUS UNUM. The minting date of 2011 is also included on the bottom of the reverse border.

History
The story of the America the Beautiful quarter program unfolds over more than a dozen years. Sites of historic and national significance were reviewed and chosen, and then artists created designs, competing for a slot in the series of 56 coins. One design was chosen and one coin minted for each state, territory and federal district in the country. Mintings began in 2010 and concluded in 2021.
