The land that is now part of Montana and preserved within the bounds of Glacier National Park was first inhabited by the Blackfeet indigenous people. The Blackfeet were forced to cede their land to the federal government in 1895 via a treaty, with the government quickly establishing a park to protect the land. By 1910, the government had established a national park in the region.

Obverse

On the obverse face of the 2011 ATB Glacier 5 oz Silver Coin is an effigy of President George Washington. A modified version of the same portrait found on the US quarter, this design of President Washington depicts him in left-profile relief and was created in 1932 by John Flanagan. The portrait was placed on the quarter in 1932 to celebrate the 200th anniversary of Washingtons birth.

Reverse

The reverse field of 2011 ATB Glacier 5 oz Silver Coins includes the image of a mountain goat in the foreground and the peak at Reynolds Mountain in the distance. The US government first established a preserve in what is now Glacier National Park in 1897 before later redesignating the park as a National Park in 1910.

History

Glacier National Park is one of the largest in the country and encompasses a total of 1 million acres of land. Included within the park hundreds of animal species, thousands of plant species, and more than 130 named lakes.

Ordering

2011 ATB Glacier 5 oz Silver Coins in this listing earned Mint State 69 certifications. Coins with this grade have full, original mint luster and a maximum of two minor detracting flaws.
