History

The Vicksburg Campaign was launched by the Union Army in March of 1863 and the Battle of Vicksburg lasted for a total of 47 days. The goal of the campaign was to split the south and give the Union control of the Mississippi River. After the 47-day siege, the Union emerged victorious at Vicksburg and seized control of the Mississippi River with a later victory further south in Louisiana at Port Hudson.
