Obverse
The obverse of the 2011 Australian Silver Lunar Rabbit 1 oz Coin features the renowned portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, designed by Ian Rank-Broadley. Her Majesty the Queen has been featured on many coins produced by the Perth Mint to honor her as a revered leader. On the obverse of the 2011 coin, the purity and weight appear, as well as the year of issue and two inscriptions: ELIZABETH II and AUSTRALIA.
Reverse
The reverse of the 2011 Australian Silver Lunar Rabbit 1 oz Coin shows two adorable rabbits as they nestle together in the wilderness. The reverse also shows the rabbit Chinese symbol and the P mint mark of the Perth Mint. Below the two rabbits, the inscription YEAR OF THE RABBIT appears.
History
The Perth Mint was founded in 1898 and is the oldest operating coin facility in Australia. First introduced in 1996, the Lunar series was designed with the rat zodiac sign and was reintroduced in 2008 as the second Lunar series. The 2011 Australian Silver Lunar Rabbit 1 oz Coin is the fourth coin in the Lunar Series II program.
