The Year of the Rabbit is the fourth in the 12-year cycle of the Zodiac. The Perth Mints various Lunar Series coin collections always follow the proper order of the cycle. The Zodiac always starts with the Year of the Rat and ends with the Year of the Pig. For the Lunar Series II collection, this meant launching the program in 2008 with the Year of the Rat and concluding in 2019 with the Year of the Pig.

Obverse

On the obverse side of these 2011 Australian Lunar Rabbit 2 oz Gold Coins, you will find the right-profile bust of Queen Elizabeth II. Her Majesty is featured here in the fifth-generation design to be used on Australian coins. It was created in 1998 by Ian Rank-Broadley and shows the Queen wearing the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara. Rumored to be her favorite, this tiara was gifted to her grandmother, Mary of Teck, upon her marriage to her grandfather, the future King George V.

Reverse

The reverse face of the 2011 Australian Lunar Rabbit 2 oz Gold Coin includes the image of a small rabbit. The rabbit is depicted next to a small pot and is captured in such intricate detail that you can pick out the individual hairs in its fur. There is also an inscription on this face of the phrase Year of the Rabbit and the Chinese symbol for the rabbit.

History

The Lunar Series II collection ran from 2008 to 2019 at the Perth Mint. This Year of the Rabbit coin was one of several gold options in 2011 during the fourth year of availability for Lunar Series II coins. All coins are produced by the Perth Mint of Western Australia and feature a P mint mark within the reverse design element.
