The Lunar Series I program commenced in 1996, initially presenting only gold coins. Silver coins were introduced until 1999. Lunar Series I gold coins were aligned with the Zodiac from 1996 to 2007, while Lunar Series I silver coins were issued out of line with the Zodiac from 1999 to 2010.

The obverse of the 2011 Lunar Rabbit 2 oz Silver Coin showcases Ian Rank-Broadleys effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in right-profile relief, adorned with the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara. The inscriptions include ELIZABETH II, AUSTRALIA, 2 OZ 999 SILVER, 2011, and 2 DOLLARS.
Reverse
On the reverse of 2011 Australian Lunar Rabbit Silver Coin, Perth Mint beautifully depicts two rabbits, symbolizing good luck, peace, and longevity in Chinese culture. An adult rabbit is accompanied by its young bunny, representing good fortune. The inscriptions read YEAR OF THE RABBIT, the Chinese symbol for the rabbit, and the P mint mark.
