As is customary for Canadian coins of this era, the obverse features Susanna Blunt’s design of Queen Elizabeth II. The Queen’s portrait is set against a highly attractive textured background pattern. The coin’s face value of $200 is inscribed towards the bottom along with the date, while six maple leaves appear to Elizabeth’s right and left. A 12-sided inset border is engraved towards the periphery.
The reverse side of the coin depicts a member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (known as a “Mountie”) riding a galloping horse. Much like the obverse, the reverse features a 12-sided inset border and a textured background pattern. The coin’s country of origin appears towards the top, while the 1 oz weight and .99999 purity are inscribed at the bottom.
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police is the federal police force of Canada. They provide law enforcement at the federal level. Although members of the RCMP are not always mounted on actual horses, they are still affectionately dubbed the “mounties” by Canadians.
This ultra-scarce low-mintage issue honors the RCMP. It boasts a miniscule mintage of just 8,408 pieces, making it one of the rarest Royal Canadian Mint bullion coins. Furthermore, it’s lofty .99999 purity and highly attractive design make it one of the most beloved Canadian gold coins.
Each 2011 1 oz Mountie coin is delivered in its original RCM assay card, which not only protects the coin, but also serves as a certificate of authenticity. The coin’s technical specifications, including its ultra-pure fineness of 99.999%, are stated on the assay card.
Each 2011 Mountie coin is shipped in its original mint-sealed assay card.
