Canadian Maple Leaf Silver Coins are issued by the Royal Canadian Mint as an investment-grade bullion coin. The Maple Leaf is a leading silver coin in the precious metals market and is second in demand and mintage to only the American Eagle Silver Coin in most years. The Canadian Maple Leaf is, however, one of just a few bullion coins available in .9999 pure silver. Today, you have the chance to get certified 2011 Canadian Maple Leaf 1 oz Silver Coins online at Provident Metals.

Highlights:

  • Arrives with the NGC protective plastic slab!
  • 25th release of the Canadian Maple Leaf 1 oz Silver coin!
  • Limited number of certified silver coins!
  • Contains 1 Troy oz of .9999 pure silver.
  • The face value of $5 (CAD) is backed by Canada.
  • Graded Mint State 68 by the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation.
  • Queen Elizabeth II is featured on the obverse.
  • Sugar maple leaf design is found on the reverse of the coin.

The Royal Canadian Mint introduced the Canadian Maple Leaf Silver Coin in 1988. That same year saw the mint introduce its Canadian Maple Leaf Platinum Coin as well, but the silver bullion coin was the star of the show that year. When the Royal Canadian Mint released the first Maple Leaf Silver Coins, the program was the only one available to investors in .9999 pure silver content. It would be nearly another two decades until another major silver bullion coin program debuted with .9999 silver, that being the 2016 release of the new, annual Australian Kangaroo 1 oz Silver coin.

Obverse

Queen Elizabeth II is featured on the obverse of 2011 Canadian Maple Leaf 1 oz Silver Coins. Her Majesty features here in a right-profile portrait from Susanna Blunt. Designed in 2003, this is just the second bust of the Queen created by a Canadian artist and is the first since the reign of King George VI to depict the monarch without a crown. Inscriptions here read Elizabeth II and 5 Dollars 2011.

Reverse

The sugar maple leaf is shown on the reverse side of 2011 Canadian Maple Leaf 1 oz Silver Coins. Designed in 1979 by Walter Ott, this gorgeous image of a single maple leaf has appeared on all versions of the Canadian Maple Leaf introduced since 1979, including the silver, platinum, and palladium coins. Inscriptions on this face of the coin include Canada, 9999, and Fine Silver 1 oz Argent Pur.

History

The Royal Canadian Mint was founded in 1907 as the sovereign mint of Canada. It originally consisted only of the Ottawa Mint, but by 1980 needed a second facility and the Winnipeg Mint was founded. The Ottawa Mint strikes all numismatic and bullion coins for the nation, while the Winnipeg Mint handles circulation currency production.

Ordering

The 2011 Canadian Maple Leaf 1 oz Silver Coins in this listing are Mint State 68 specimens. Coins in this condition have full, original mint luster with a very prominent strike. The coins have no visible flaws in the primary focal areas and attractive eye appeal.
