The Mexican Libertad series was introduced by the Mexican Mint in 1981, starting with the Gold Libertad coins. These coins feature designs that were originally used on the 1921 Gold Centenario, a special 50 Peso coin celebrating 100 years of Mexicos independence from Spain. Over the years, the Gold Libertad coins have remained a popular choice for collectors and investors alike. Right now, 2011 Mexican Libertad 1 oz Gold Coins are available at Provident Metals.

Highlights:

  • Arrives in a protective plastic flip!
  • 16th release of 1 oz Gold Libertad Coins!
  • Mintage of just 3,000 coins!
  • Contains 1 Troy oz of .999 pure gold.
  • Obverse showcases the Mexican coat of arms.
  • Reverse depicts the Winged Victory statue.

Each 2011 Mexican Libertad 1 oz Gold Coin is carefully packaged inside a protective plastic flip. The Gold Libertad series debuted in 1981, but it wasnt until 2002 that the coin became an annual release. In 2011, the mintage was limited to just 3,000 coins, a stark contrast to the 596,000 coins issued during the series inaugural year.

Obverse

The obverse of the 2011 Mexican Libertad Gold Coin features Mexicos coat of arms, which shows an eagle devouring a snake while perched on a cactus. This symbol dates back to Aztec mythology and is surrounded by 10 historical versions of Mexico’s coat of arms. Inscriptions read ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS.

Reverse

On the reverse side of 2011 Libertad 1 oz Gold Coins, youll find the famous statue of Winged Victory. A symbol of Mexicos independence, she stands proudly on top of the Mexican Independence Victory Column in Mexico City. Winged Victory holds a laurel wreath and broken chains, representing freedom, while the volcanoes Popocatepetl and Iztaccihuatl appear in the background. Inscriptions include 1 ONZA, ORO PURO, 2011 LEY .999, and the mint mark.

History

Initially released as only gold coins, the Mexican Libertad series has grown to include silver and various proof versions. Despite these expansions, the iconic imagery featured on both the obverse and reverse of each Libertad coin remains the same.
