Obverse

On the obverse side of the 2011-P Reverse Proof American Eagle 1 oz Silver Coin is the iconic image of Walking Liberty. This beautiful depiction of Liberty was created in 1916 by Adolph A. Weinman to replace the Barber Coinage design on the US Half Dollar. It featured on that coin from 1916 to 1947 and was revived by the US Mint in 1986 for use on the new American Eagle 1 oz Silver bullion coins.

Reverse

The reverse face of 2011-P Reverse Proof American Eagle 1 oz Silver Coins bears the image of the heraldic eagle of the United States. The US Mints John Mercanti, who served as the 12th Chief Engraver from 2006 to 2010, designed this image of the heraldic eagle in 1986 for this series. The national emblem bears the US shield on the chest of the eagle, arrows in one talon, and an olive branch in the other. It was first designed in 1794 and has been modified several times since then for US denominations.

History

The 2011-P Reverse Proof American Eagle 1 oz Silver Coin was just the second reverse proof American Eagle Silver Coin in US history following the release of a 2006-P Reverse Proof to mark the 20th anniversary of the series. The additional 2011-S Proof American Eagle issued was the first S proof from the San Francisco Mint since 1992.
