Let your cares float away with the 2011 The Dead Sea Silver Proof NIS 2 from the Holy Land Mint.
This .925 sterling silver coin commemorates the 63rd anniversary of Israel’s founding by paying homage to one of its natural treasures: the Dead Sea.
The obverse of each coin includes the face value of 2 New Sheqels. The Israel State Emblem is marked to the left of center. The rim is inscribed with INDEPENDENCE DAY 2011 in English and Hebrew. ISRAEL is written in English, Hebrew, and Arabic.
The reverse was made with a satellite photo of the Dead Sea, with a beautiful finish. An ibex--a native goat commonly seen on the cliffs near the sea—is perched to the left. DEAD SEA is written in Arabic, English and Hebrew near the rim.
Because of its unusual density of minerals, it is difficult to swim in the water. However, it is very easy to float. Every year, seekers from around the world come to the sea in search of relief from their medical ailments, such as psoriasis, rhinosinusitis, and osteoarthritis.
Unfortunately, because of influence from humans and high evaporation rates, the Dead Sea is drying up, with the southern edge of the lake now completely dry. Renovation projects are planned to increase the water supply and save the famous sea.
