Produced by the United States Mint, the American Silver Eagle is one of the most renowned coins ever released. Each coin arrives in its original U.S. Mint packaging with a certificate of authenticity.
The Silver Eagle’s obverse is an adapted version of Adolph A. Weinman’s 1916 Walking Liberty design, originally used on the Walking Liberty Half Dollar. The popular design, revived decades later, can now be seen on the front of every ASE.
Lady Liberty, cloaked in flowing robes, strides across the obverse, her arms outstretched toward an impending sunrise. LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST and the date of mintage are engraved.
The reverse is a design by the Mint’s Chief Engraver, John Mercanti. The engraving is based on the Great Seal of the United States, featuring a bald eagle clutching a bundle of arrows and an olive branch in its claws. A banner with E PLURIBUS UNUM inscribed is held in its beak. 13 stars are engraved above its head, representing the original Thirteen Colonies. UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, the fineness, face value and mint mark are additionally engraved.
American Silver Eagles were first introduced in 1986. Since then, they have become the official bullion of the U.S. Mint, increasing in popularity for both investors and collectors alike. The 2011 Silver Eagle bears the “W” Mint Mark from West Point.
