The United States Mint introduced the First Spouse Gold Coin Program in 2007 to recognize the role of First Ladies in American history. Each 1/2 oz gold coin in the series highlights the legacy and initiatives of these influential women. Now, Provident Metals offers the 2011-W US Mint First Spouse Julia Grant 1/2 oz Gold Coin in pristine condition.
Highlights:
Each 2011-W US Mint First Spouse Julia Grant 1/2 oz Gold Coin is available in perfect MS70 condition, meaning it retains its original mint luster and has no visible imperfections. Additionally, the coin is encased in a slab with a label that has been hand-signed by David Hall, a co-founder of the Professional Coin Grading Service.
Obverse
The obverse of the 2011-W US Mint First Spouse Julia Grant Gold Coin features a detailed portrait of Julia Grant, capturing her composure and grace. As First Lady, she actively engaged in Washington, D.C., society, building relationships and fulfilling her role with warmth and influence. Inscriptions read JULIA GRANT, IN GOD WE TRUST, LIBERTY, 2011, 18TH, 1869-1877, and the W mint mark.
Reverse
The reverse design on the 2011-W First Spouse Julia Grant 1/2 oz Gold Coin illustrates Julia Dent Grants early years. She is shown riding horseback on her familys White Haven plantation in Missouri, accompanied by Ulysses S. Grant. Their bond began in 1844, leading to their marriage in 1848, well before Grant became a Civil War general and later, the 18th President of the United States. Inscriptions include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, $10, 1/2 OZ., and .9999 FINE GOLD.
History
Julia Grant remained a steadfast supporter of her husband throughout his military and political career. During the Civil War, she frequently traveled to be near General Grant, ensuring she could stay close to him during his campaigns for the Union Army.
