Introduced in 1795 and modified multiples times in the centuries since, the heraldic eagle featured here is a work by John Mercanti. It showcases a powerful bald eagle with the US national shield on its chest. The eagle looks to the olive branch of peace in one talon while clutching the arrows of war in its other talon as a sign of constant readiness.
History
From 2008 to 2011, each subsequent release of the American Eagle 1 oz Silver Coin set a new mintage record, culminating at the time in a record of 40.02 million coins in 2011. The 2012 American Eagle Silver Coin experienced a dip in demand to 33.742 million coins. However, the next three years would experience a reverse in demand for three new mintage highs that culminated in 2015s still-standing record.
