Obverse

The obverse of the 2012 Dragon Privy Canadian Maple Leaf 1 oz Silver Reverse Proof Coin includes a depiction of Queen Elizabeth II. Her Majesty is captured in right-profile relief in a fourth-generation design from Susanna Blunt. The coin features inscriptions of Elizabeth II, 5 Dollars, and 2012.

Reverse

On the reverse face of the 2012 Dragon Privy Canadian Maple Leaf Silver Reverse Proof coin, you will find an image of the sugar maple leaf. Designed in 1979 by Walter Ott, this natural image of the sugar maple leaf has featured on the gold, silver, platinum, and palladium versions of the Canadian Maple Leaf. The inscriptions on this face of the coin include Canada, 9999, and Fine Silver 1 oz Argent Pur. There is also a Year of the Dragon Privy Mark on this face of the coins.

History

The Royal Canadian Mint introduced the Canadian Maple Leaf Silver Coins in 1988. The series featured its first-ever privy mark in 1989. The first Zodiac Series privy mark debuted in 1998 and was available through 2009 with one new privy mark for each of the 12 years in the cycle of the Chinese Lunar Calendar. After a three-year hiatus, the series of privy mark Canadian Maple Leaf Silver Coins returned in 2012 with these Year of the Dragon coins.
