The Perth Mint is responsible for introducing the idea of lunar-themed coins. With the introduction of its Lunar Series I coins in 1996, the mint started a craze that has grown into bullion and proof collectible coin releases from sovereign mints around the globe. The Lunar Series II collection launched in 2008 and featured a Year of the Snake design for 2013. Provident Metals now offers you that 2013 Australian Lunar Snake 1 oz Gold Coin for purchase online.

Your 2013 Australian Lunar Snake 1 oz Gold Coin is available for purchase here today inside of a protective plastic capsule. The coins are all in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. The Perth Mint issued the 2013 Australian Lunar Snake gold coins in a total of nine different weights, but only the large 10 kilo coin and these 1 oz gold coins had mintage caps. Only 30,000 of these coins were originally produced and all were sold by the Perth Mint by the end of 2013, but you can still purchase them from Provident Metals.

Obverse

The obverse face of 2013 Australian Lunar Snake 1 oz Gold Coins features an effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. Her Majesty has reigned as Queen of England and the Commonwealth since 1952. She is now the longest-reigning monarch in British history. This right-profile bust was created in 1998 by Ian Rank-Broadley for the Royal Mint of England and is the fifth design to showcase on Australian coins.

Reverse

On the reverse, 2013 Australian Lunar Snake 1 oz Gold Coins have the image of a snake created by Ing Ing Jong. This design features a small snake coiled up among grass and bamboo shoots. The inscriptions on this side include Year of the Snake, with a P mint mark from the Perth Mint and the Chinese symbol for the snake.

History

The Lunar Series II collection from the Perth Mint ran from 2008 to 2019 following the 12-year cycle of the Zodiac in its exact tracks from the Year of the Mouse to the Year of the Pig. This was preceded by the Lunar Series I collection from 1996 to 2007 and the new Lunar Series III collection that debuted in 2020.
