Reverse
On the reverse side of the 2013-W Proof American Eagle Gold Coins, one will find a family of bald eagles, a design created in 1986 by Miley Busiek specifically for this collection. The image portrays a female eagle nurturing her hatchlings in the nest while a male eagle soars above.
History
The Proof American Eagle Gold Coin made its debut over a three-year period. The initial coin was introduced in 1986 as a 1 oz gold specimen, followed by the 1/2 oz gold coin in 1987, and the 1/4 oz and 1/10 oz gold coins in 1988. This launch differed from the BU Gold Eagles, which offered all four weights in their debut year of 1986.
