About the Chinese Zodiac
The ancient Chinese zodiac associates twelve animals to years on the astrological calendar. It’s believed that each person’s year of birth gives them the personality attributes of the animal tied to that year. The birth years for the Year of the Snake include 1917, 1929, 1941, 1953, 1965, 1977, 1989, 2001, and 2013. People born in these years are said to be intuitive, determined, intelligent, and independent.
The obverse features a portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, designed by Ian Rank-Broadley. The year of issue, weight, purity, and denomination are inscribed around the rim.
The new reverse design for the Year of the Snake features a snake curled up among grass and bamboo shoots. Above, you’ll see the Chinese character for snake. This side also includes an inscription of “YEAR OF THE SNAKE” and the Perth Mint’s “P” mint mark.
Each Year of the Snake coin will come in a protective plastic capsule as received from the mint.
