The Australian Gold Kangaroo Coin is an internationally recognized gold bullion piece with a fascinating history. Initially introduced as the Australian Gold Nugget in 1986, this series was renamed in 1990, with a new focus on Australias native kangaroo. Now, the 2013 Australian Kangaroo 1/10 oz Gold Coins are available from Provident Metals.
Highlights:
Each of these 2013 Australian Kangaroo 1/10 oz Gold Coins comes secured in a protective plastic flip. For this mintage, the Perth Mint set a maximum of 200,000 coins, with a final mintage of 53,994 coins sold, offering limited availability for collectors.
Obverse
On the obverse, each 2013 Australian Kangaroo Gold Coin includes a right-profile portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. This familiar depiction of Her Majesty, created by British artist Ian Rank-Broadley in 1998, shows her wearing the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara. The inscriptions read ELIZABETH II, AUSTRALIA, and 15 DOLLARS.
Reverse
The reverse of the 2013 Kangaroo 1/10 oz Gold Coin features a kangaroo standing on its strong hind legs, looking out over Australias vast Outback. This dynamic pose is exclusive to the 2013 edition, highlighting the kangaroos strength and alertness in the wild. Inscriptions here read AUSTRALIAN KANGAROO, 2013, 1/10 OZ 9999 GOLD, and the P mint mark.
History
Kangaroos are symbolic of Australias resilience and diversity. There are many species of kangaroos adapted to a range of habitats across the country. The red kangaroo, for example, thrives in Australias arid regions, while smaller wallabies and pademelons inhabit forests and grasslands. Their powerful legs and efficient digestion help them survive on limited resources, making them highly adapted to Australias challenging landscapes.
