The Year of the Snake is the sixth in the Chinese Lunar Calendar and represents those who are intelligent but also have a tendency to be unscrupulous. The Year of the Snake in the Lunar Series II collection marked the first release of a design from Ing Ing Jong who would go on to create countless more designs in the Lunar Series II collection through 2019. When you purchase a 2013 Australian Lunar Snake 1/4 oz Gold Coin, Provident Metals offers each item inside of an individual protective plastic capsule. The coins are all in Brilliant Uncirculated condition with a limited mintage of only 16,159 coins eventually sold. The Perth Mint had an unlimited mintage approach, indicating it would produce the coins to meet demand through the end of 2013 only. The 1/4 oz gold coin ended up as the third-highest minted coin of 2013 behind the 1 oz and 1/10 oz gold coins.
Obverse
The obverse face of the 2013 Australian Lunar Snake 1/4 oz Gold Coins includes the bust of Queen Elizabeth II. This design showcases Her Majesty in right-profile relief with the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara. This tiara is believed to be the Queens favorite and was gifted to her grandmother, Mary of Teck, upon her marriage to the Queens grandfather, King George V. Inscriptions on this face read Elizabeth II, Australia, 1/4 oz 9999 Gold, 2013, and 25 Dollars.
Reverse
On the reverse side of the 2013 Australian Lunar Snake 1/4 oz, Gold Coins is an image of a small snake as it slithers through a small patch of grass with bamboo stalks behind it. The inscriptions on this face of the coin include Year of the Snake, P mintmark from the Perth Mint and the Chinese symbol for the snake.
History
The Lunar Series II collection offered various gold coin options for investors. The Perth Mints 2013 Australian Lunar Snake Gold Coins were available in 10 Kilo, 1 Kilo, 10 oz, 2 oz, 1 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/10 oz gold weights. The 10 Kilo coin had a mintage cap of 100, the 1 oz coin a mintage cap of 30,000, and all other coins had the unlimited mintage.
