When you purchase a 2013 Canadian Maple Leaf 1 oz Silver Coin, the item you are buying comes with an individual plastic capsule. These coins are Brilliant Uncirculated items from the bullion release of Canadian Maple Leafs. Each coin has a thin layer of 24-karat gold applied to select design elements to create visual contrast and impressive beauty in the design.

Obverse

On the obverse face of the 2013 Canadian Maple Leaf 1 oz Silver Coin, you will find the image of Queen Elizabeth II. This is the fourth-generation effigy of Her Majesty created for the Royal Canadian Mint to use on Canadian coins. It was designed in 2003 by Susanna Blunt and depicts the Queen in right-profile relief with no crown on her head. In keeping with the tradition of monarch portraits on British and Commonwealth denominations, the Queen is shown in right-profile relief rather than left-profile relief as her father, King George VI was shown.

Reverse

The reverse side of 2013 Canadian Maple Leaf Silver Gilded Coins bears the image of the sugar maple leaf. The iconic emblem of the nation, this design dates to 1979 when Walter Ott created it for use on the debut of the Canadian Maple Leaf Gold Coins. The sugar maple leaf is the national symbol of Canada and features on everything from military insignias and government emblems to the national flag.

History

Gilded silver coins such as these often feature a thin layer of 24-karat gold that is not enough to enhance the precious metal value of the item, but is just enough to create impressive visual contrast while combining two sought-after metals in one product. In the case of these coins, the gold layer is applied only to the sugar maple leaf on the reverse.
