The Chinese Panda coins from the Chinese Mint were trendsetters when originally released in 1982. The coins immediately became the first in the world to use new designs on one side of the coin each year. The Silver Panda and Gold Panda coins feature a different image of the Giant Panda on its surfaces each year, with the Silver Panda using the panda on the obverse and the Gold Panda using it on the reverse. The obverse face of 2013 Chinese Panda Silver Coins includes the depiction of the Giant Panda. In this case, it is a depiction of three Giant Pandas. The trio is depicted at the edge of a small pool of water. While one panda leans down to sip the water, sending ripples across the surface, the other two look on. The background includes a bamboo wall and inscriptions of the face value, weight, metal content, and purity.

On the reverse, 2013 Chinese Panda 1 oz Silver Coins include the image of the Hall of Prayer for Abundant Harvests. This building is the largest within the Temple of Heaven complex in Beijing, a Taoist religious site. 1982 marked the introduction of the Chinese Panda Series with gold bullion coins. In 1983, the Chinese Mint expanded to feature the Chinese Panda Silver Coins, making the 2013 date mark the celebratory 30th-anniversary date mark.
