Use your investments to illustrate your faith with the 2013 David Playing for Saul Silver NIS 1 commemorative coin from the Holy Land Mint. This .925 sterling silver coin is the 18th in the Biblical Art Series produced by the mint.
The story of King Saul and the shepherd David can be found in the book of Samuel in the Bible. Saul was the king of Israel for two war-torn years. During his rule, the prophet Samuel was sent to the house of Jesse to find the next king. Only the youngest boy, David, was found worthy. With God’s guidance, David was sent to Saul to sooth his terrible moods. In time, David rose up and became a leader in Saul’s army. He then became king.
The reverse of this coin celebrates this momentous turning point. On it, old King Saul listens pensively in the background. A young David plays his lyre in the foreground. The crown is in bright contrast to the thin-lined portrait of Saul, marking the impending transition from one king to another.
The obverse includes the words DAVID PLAYING FOR SAUL 1 SAMUEL 16 in English, Hebrew and Arabic around the rim. The face value of 1 New Sheqel is indicated on the right, with the Israel State Emblem to the left. A lyre is on the lower half.
