Obverse
The obverse of the 2013 Lunar Snake Privy Maple Leaf Coins features Queen Elizabeth II, portrayed by Susanna Blunt. Blunt’s artistic rendition represents the fourth-generation effigy of the Queen during her reign and was created in 2003. She is only the second Canadian artist to design a monarch portrait for Royal Canadian Mint coins.
Reverse
On the reverse of the 2013 1 oz Lunar Snake Privy Candian Maple Leafs, you’ll find Walter Ott’s exquisite depiction of the sugar maple leaf, accompanied by a special Lunar Snake privy mark. Additionally, each Year of the Snake corresponds to one of the five elements in Chinese philosophy: Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, or Water. The Year of the Snake in 2013 was specifically associated with the element of Water.
History
Despite not having its own dedicated Lunar Series coin collection, the Royal Canadian Mint has gained popularity by introducing two collections featuring privy marks for the Canadian Silver Maple Leaf. The first collection ran from 1998 to 2009, while the ongoing second series started in 2012.
