Obverse
The obverse face of the 2013 Ukrainian Archangel Michael 1/10 oz Gold Coin features a front-facing portrait of the full figure of Michael. He is depicted with powerful wings flexed outward behind his figure with a radiant halo around his head. He wears a metal chest plate to protect him in battle and wields a long sword in his right hand. Inscriptions around the edge of the coin are in the Ukrainian language.
Reverse
On the reverse of all coins in the 2013 Ukrainian Archangel Michael Gold bullion release is the coat of arms for Ukraine. Adopted in February 1992 following its independence in the aftermath of the Soviet Unions collapse, the seal includes a shield with a stylized trident. The national coat of arms, in real life, reflects the colors of the national flag with a blue shield and a gold trident. This seal is based on earlier versions used by the Ukrainian Peoples Republic from 1918-1920.
History
The National Bank of Ukraine first made the Archangel Michael coins available in 1 oz silver, 1 oz gold, and 1/4 oz gold. The 2012 issue year saw the debut of these 1/10 oz gold coins alongside the 1/2 oz gold coin. In most years, the 1/10 oz gold coin has proven the most popular among investors.
