The American Silver Eagle is a well-known silver coin series from the United States Mint. First introduced in 1986, these coins have included both Brilliant Uncirculated and Proof options. While the Proof Silver Eagle has been released each year since then, the 2009 issue was skipped. Every coin in the series features the same obverse design, originally seen on the Walking Liberty Half Dollar. Provident Metals now offers 2013-W Proof American Eagle 1 oz Silver Coins in certified condition.
Highlights:
Each of the 2013-W Proof American Eagle 1 oz Silver Coins offered here has earned a PR69 grade. This means the coin is nearly flawless, showing full original luster and no more than two small marks or hairlines that are located away from key design elements. The DCAM, or deep-cameo, finish brings extra detail to the coin by combining frosted elements with a mirrored background.
Obverse
The obverse of the 2013-W Proof American Eagle Silver Coin continues to display the classic Walking Liberty image, which many collectors consider among the most striking ever seen on American coinage. With her arm outstretched and the flag wrapped around her, Liberty symbolizes hope and determination. The inscriptions read LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST, and 2013.
Reverse
The reverse of 2013-W Proof Eagle 1 oz Silver Coins carries John Mercantis heraldic eagle design. First used in 1986, this image shows a bald eagle facing forward with a shield on its chest. In its talons, the eagle holds arrows and an olive branch, while 13 stars appear aboveeach one representing an original American colony. The inscriptions include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, 1 OZ FINE SILVER, ONE DOLLAR, and the W mint mark.
History
The obverse of these coins showcases Adolph A. Weinmans Walking Liberty design. This artwork appeared on half-dollar coins from 1916 to 1947 and was inspired by earlier interpretations of liberty in motion. Weinman, a student of Augustus Saint-Gaudens, looked to the French “Sower” by Oscar Roty as a reference when creating Liberty striding confidently with the American flag over her shoulders, reaching toward the sun. It remains a lasting symbol of American progress.
