History
Edith Roosevelt made excellent use of her eight years in the White House. She is most known for her efforts in updating features in the White House itself. One of her most notable achievements was her approval and support of renovations in the West Wing. Edith was also responsible for establishing the ground floors portrait gallery of First Ladies. Also, the house itself only became known as the White House during Ediths time there. Prior, it had been referred to as the Executive Mansion.
