The obverse of the 2013-W Proof First Spouse Ida McKinley 1/2 oz Gold Coin features a left-profile bust of the First Lady. Ida McKinley was known for her exceptional skills in hosting grand events at the White House, yet she was also a private person, facing the challenges of epilepsy. Her condition remained confidential during her time as First Lady, and she received unwavering care from her husband and close aides. Inscriptions include IDA MCKINLEY, IN GOD WE TRUST, LIBERTY, 2013, 25TH, 1897-1901, and the W mint mark.

On the reverse side of the 2013-W Proof US Mint Ida McKinley Gold Coins, you will find a touching portrayal of two hands using a crochet needle. Ida’s talent for crocheting slippers during her private moments at the White House became renowned, with the slippers later being auctioned for charitable causes. The inscriptions read UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, $10, 1/2 OZ., and .9999 FINE GOLD.

As First Lady, Ida McKinley was known for her warmth, kindness, and grace. She was particularly popular with foreign dignitaries, who were charmed by her hospitality. Ida had a significant influence on her husband’s political decisions. President McKinley often sought her advice on political matters, and she was known to be a trusted confidante.
