Obverse
The obverse of the 2013-W US Mint First Spouse Ellen Wilson Gold Coin features a portrait of Ellen Wilson. During her time as First Lady, she focused on improving living conditions in Washington, D.C., particularly in impoverished neighborhoods. After her death, Congress passed the Alley Dwelling Act, a piece of legislation that became known as Mrs. Wilsons Bill. The inscriptions read ELLEN WILSON, IN GOD WE TRUST, LIBERTY, 2013, 28TH, 1913-1914, and the W mint mark.
Reverse
On the reverse of 2013-W First Spouse Ellen Wilson 1/2 oz Gold Coins, roses are depicted in recognition of her contributions to the White House grounds. Ellen Wilsons redesign of the Rose Garden left a lasting impact, and she also created a painting studio on the roof of the White House. Inscriptions here read UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, $10, 1/2 OZ., and .9999 FINE GOLD.
