Indeed, the reverse of each coin features a fierce war horse, along with the Chinese character for “horse,” which is engraved on the animal’s neck. The horse has a closely cropped military-style mane, its nostrils flaring and its lips pulled back in anger while staring down its opponent. Designed by Canadian artist Simon Ng, the horse’s head is placed in front of a stylized field of wheat.
The obverse of each Oz Silver Year of the Horse features the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II wearing pearls. It is engraved with the words ELIZABETH II and D G REGINA near the rim.
