The reverse of this coin bears the stunning image of a red kangaroo, the unofficial symbol of Australia. The ‘roo stands in front of a beautiful stretch of Australian grassland, hills cascading into the distance. The words AUSTRALIAN KANGAROO and 2014 1oz 9999 GOLD are on the rim.
Because Kangaroo coins are legal tender in Australia, the obverse features the portrait of Queen Elizabeth. The rim is etched with the words ELIZABETH II, AUSTRALIA and 100 DOLLARS.
The name of the hot, dry grassland where kangaroos and other wildlife live is “the Outback.” This area is mainly a tourist destination, as the arid climate makes it hard for large habitations, though it also has large mining operations. Large animals like the red kangaroo spend the blazing hot days hiding under the shade of bushes and small trees to keep cool in the heat.

I bought three of these--my first gold coins (and hence I have nothing to compare them against, unfortunately, so bear that in mind as you read my review)--and I must say they look stunning. Unfortunately, the bottom fell out of the market three days after I ordered, so I doubt I'll ever recoup my original cost by the time I retire (yet another bad retirement investment!), but maybe my great great grandchildren will be able to use them, you know, after the fall of the People's Demokratic Socialist Republik of Amerika. In the meantime, the coins certainly are a pleasure to behold! I just might have to pick up one of the newly released 2015 editions now; which I really wasn't planning on, but I think it goes w/o saying now, based on how brilliant and detailed these look. Pretty slick for a bullion coin."

I started buying the fractional kangaroos this year and finally got the 1 oz today and WOW! the quality and detail in these coins are outstanding. I like it that they come in capsules from the mint and at a great price for .9999, you cant go wrong. Along with the great service from Provident its a win win."

Kangaroo was very high relief with a great outback raised background. The queen side is unique with the frosted background and brilliant gold queen picture. This one off might become my new stacker. Great provident process was quickly shipped."

Ordered 1 Kangaroo on Monday and had it one week to the day later. The Kangaroo is a brilliant, beautiful, and very reasonably priced gold piece. The coin comes in a plastic protective case to ensure the 24 karat coin is safe from scratches and dings. Wish all of the 24 karat gold came in one of these. Would like to get some of the past year designs, but for the $1 difference, might as well get the latest.
