The Giant Panda is one of the most cherished creatures in China, even serving as China’s national emblem. You can celebrate this tender and beloved species with the 2014 1 oz Chinese Silver Panda coin.
These annual bullion coins are comprised of .999 fine silver and have been minted since 1983.
This years’ design features a young panda playing with a tree branch. Behind him, a wall of bamboo rises, slipping into a delicate bamboo-leaf background on the top and bottom of the design. The denomination 10 yuan rests near the bear and “1oz Ag 999” is marked on the lower rim.
The reverse features the Temple of Heaven, a significant location in China’s history. The top is marked with “People’s Republic of China” in Chinese characters, and “2014” is near the bottom. The Temple of Heaven is a religious site used by Emperors in several dynasties to pray for a good harvest every year. It was constructed from 1406 to 1420 and remains a popular site.

I bought a mint sheet of these in May '14. First off, kudos to the Chinese mint for their packaging; each coin comes in its own individual airtight, and then those are placed into a plastic tray (like you would find in a box of chocolates) and sealed on top with heavy film. That struck me right off the bat--not many mints put that much care into a bullion product--but then you look past the packaging at the coins within and just go, "Wow," in admiration The design, detail, finish, and overall quality of the strike are impressive. If it weren't for the fact that one of the airtights was crushed on delivery, it would have been a perfect purchase; but even so, I was pleasantly surprised by these coins. And on a purely personal note, it is so incredibly pleasing (to me) to see a legal tender coin that DOESN'T have someone's stupid head stamped on it (i.e. a president, a monarch, etc)! I "probably" won't ever buy another panda coin again, due to their expense, but I am so glad I splurged and at least bought these."

This coin is very nice. The detail on both sides is pristine, and the panda design is just plain neat! The only problem I had is the mint capsule. It seems a little too large for the coin, which makes it bounce around inside the capsule. I gave it 4 stars instead of five for this, but everything else is perfect.

The picture doesn’t do justice. I compared it with 2013 (3pandas drinking) side by side, 2014 is much superior coin than previous years! Of course I will get some more including gold Pandas in various denominations. Get them while you can… Silver and Panda prices are rising. Don’t wait!
