Designed by Trevor Tennant, the reverse of each coin features the right-facing profile of a moose in its natural habitat. In stunning detail, the antlered beast looks over its shoulder toward the viewer. Wetlands, trees and foothills can be seen in the background, along with a miniature moosehead profile to the left. It is inscribed with the words CANADA, 2014 and 5 DOLLARS.
The obverse of each coin features Susanna Blunt’s portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, along with the inscriptions ELIZABETH II and D.G. REGINA.
The 2014 Gold Moose has a diameter of 16mm, a weight of 3.14 grams and a serrated edge. It comes housed in a maroon clamshell with a custom beauty box.
