Obverse
President George Washington is featured on the obverse side of 2014 ATB Shenandoah Silver Coins. This left-profile relief of Washington was created in 1932 for the US Quarter by John Flanagan. The design was released that year to honor the 200th anniversary of his birth. Inscriptions include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST, and QUARTER DOLLAR.
Reverse
For the reverse design of 2014 ATB Shenandoah 5 oz Silver Coins, the United States Mint offers a depiction of a hiker who has reached the summit of Stony Man Trail. The inscriptions on this side of the coin read SHENANDOAH, VIRGINIA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, and 2014.
History
The order of appearance for the designs in this series is based on the age of the site within each chosen jurisdiction. The oldest protected sites were featured first, with the series offering images of younger sites as the program went on. Shenandoah National Park was formally established on May 22, 19216.
