Children in Australia can be heard singing “Kookaburra sits in the old gum tree,” and investors will also be singing with joy when they pick up this 1 kilo 2014 Silver Kookaburra coin from the Perth Mint.
Though the series is known for depicting the famous Australian bird in a variety of poses, the 2014 design could be taken directly from the nursery rhyme, as it features the laughing bird sitting in the branch of a gum tree on the obverse. The words “AUSTRALIAN KOOKABURRA” are positioned near the top of the rim, and the lower section says “2014 1 KILO 999 SILVER.”
The reverse includes the traditional portrait of Queen Elizabeth. The rim says “ELIZABETH II,” “AUSTRALIA” and “30 DOLLARS.”
The song “Kookaburra” was written in 1932 by Marion Sinclair, a music teacher at a girls’ school in Melbourne. She entered the song in a competition by the Girl Guides Association of Victoria, and the proceeds of the rights to the song when toward the purchase of a camp ground. It was first performed at the 1934 annual Jamboree, and the founders of the Girl Guides and Girl Scouts/Boy Scouts, including Lord Baden-Powell, were in attendance. Because of this connection, the “Kookaburra” song is sometimes considered a traditional scouting song.

This thing is a monster! Reasonable premium above spot to get this chunk of silver. Not a terrible stacker either if you get a bunch of them although they are round and may mess up your stack in a confined space. Comes in a nice huge airtight. I like to stack bars but for a few dollars more I get a monster coin that arrived near flawless. Get them while you can."
