Highlights:
If you purchase the 2014 Australian Wedge Tail Eagle 1 oz Silver Coin in this product listing, the item you receive will come in the protective plastic slab of the NGC. These coins earned Mint State 69 certifications. Known as near-perfect specimens, each one exhibits full, original mint luster and a maximum of two minor detracting flaws. Those flaws must be located outside of the primary focal points of the coin.
Early Release coins are those that arrived for grading within a certain timeframe. To earn the ER label, a coin must arrive at the NGC or an approved third-party depository within the original 30-day window following release from the mint.
Obverse
On the obverse face of all 2014 Australian Wedge Tail Eagle 1 oz Silver coins, you will find an effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. This right-profile portrait was created in 1998 by Ian Rank-Broadley and depicts the Queen wearing the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara. Known to be her favorite tiara, it was gifted to the Queens grandmother, Mary of Teck, upon her marriage to King George V.
Reverse
The reverse side of the 2014 Australian Wedge Tail Eagle 1 oz Silver Coin includes the depiction of a wedge tail eagle in flight. The bird is shown swooping down toward a branch to perch on. With its wings stretched behind it as it swoops into view, the eagle extends its talons in front of its body to catch the perch.
History
Australian Wedge Tail Eagles debuted in 2014 with the eagle designs coming from John Mercanti, the 12th Chief Engraver of the United States Mint who retired in 2010 from the US Mint. Mercanti has designed all of the images in the series to date, with a total of five different designs used so far through 2020.
