As an investor — and a nature enthusiast — it’s hard to beat the alluring scenes captured on the surface of America the Beautiful coinage.
That holds true with the United States Mint’s latest release in the 56-coin series: the 2014 Great Sand Dunes National Park 5 oz Silver coin. Each piece contains five ounces of .999 fine silver.
A father and son frolic in the sand next to a creek bed on the reverse design. Sand dunes and an extraordinary mountain view can be seen in the distance. GREAT SAND DUNES, COLORADO, E PLURIBUS UNUM and 2014 are inscribed.
George Washington’s 1932 portrait graces the obverse.
Great Sand Dunes National Park was established on March 17, 1932 and covers 149,137 acres in Colorado. The National Park is brimming with alpine lakes, aspen forests, wetlands, grasslands and various other landscapes.
The tallest dunes in America can be found in the Park and Reserve, and visitors enjoy a myriad of activities, including sand sledding, hiking, swimming in Medano Creek, and much more.
Pick up this stunning investment — but be careful, it’s hefty — and appreciate the natural beauty of America’s National Parks.

"I prefer without the capsule, because the plastic capsules become scratched and often hazy and take away the beauty of the coin. Once I thought the coin was poor quality, but it was actually the capsule showing scratches and wear. The plastic sleeves are preferred in my opinion, and also make it easier to handle the coin on occasion, as I like to do."

"Love the ATB coins. Once u see and hold one u have to have them. It's amazing to me how a couple of each years coins just balloon in price. I love Provident but was also disappointed when I had to start buying a air-tite to put my coin in."

"I'm an avid collector of the ATB series--I have every single one of the 24 released so far. From the pictures, I didn't think much of the Great Sand Dunes design, but I was pleasantly surprised when it arrived. The image has a high relief to it with several different layers of texture, which is difficult to judge from a picture. This makes a great difference in terms of eye appeal. The same goes for the 2012 Chaco Culture (New Mexico) design--much better looking in your hand than in the pictures.
So, although I'm very pleased with both the design and condition of my coins, I was very unpleasantly surprised by Provident's decision to no longer include an airtight capsule, which has been a standard feature of all of the other ATBs I've purchased from Provident. Please consider bringing the airtights back, or I'll probably end up taking my ATB (and other bullion) business to SD Bullion, who offer the ATBs at the same price as you do--but WITH airtights!!" |

"Quite possibly the best looking ATB 5oz bullion since the fabulous White Mountain bullion pucks from last year. Clean and unblemished and they were in 3.25" plastic flip to boot. While I agree that keeping the puck in the supplied flips is not good for long term storage, the Z5 Air-Tite capsules are easily bought in bulk from many coin supply dealers, or you could always add one to your bullion order. The lack of a capsule should not prevent you from ordering, PM is a highly reputable and ethical precious metals firm and it is a real pleasure doing business with them."

"I agree. I have oredered many ATBs with Provident. The capsule is what gave Provident the edge for me. I was disappointed when they arrived without the capsules. I hope they bring them back. Even if it was just for frequent customers."
