Obverse

The obverse side of 2014 Mexican Libertad 1 oz Silver Coins includes an effigy of Winged Victory. The symbol of Winged Victory is based on the Roman goddess Victoria or Greek goddess Nike, both of whom are the goddess of victory. Winged Victory is a cultural icon in Mexico because she symbolizes the success of the nation in its war of independence against Spain. In the background field, you will see the twin volcanic peaks of Popocatepetl and Iztaccihuatl. Inscriptions on this face include the weight, purity, metal content, and date mark of the coins, along with the OM mint mark of the Mexican Mint.

Reverse

On the reverse of 2014 Mexican Libertad Silver Coins, you will find the modern coat of arms for Mexico in the center. This design depicts a golden eagle battling a serpent on a cactus. Surrounding the modern coat of arms along the outer edge of the design field, 10 historical versions of the coat of arms are depicted.

History

The Mexican Libertad 1 oz Silver Coin is the longest-running option in the entire Mexican Libertad Series. Introduced in 1982, it debuted after the gold coin by just one year, but unlike the gold coin, it has been available every year since its 1982 introduction.
