Professional baseball in the United States is the oldest of the four major professional sports leagues in the country. The National League and American League formed separately of one another in 1876 and 1901, respectively, and by 1903 had agreed to cooperate competitively as a single league while remaining independent entities. As a part of the American experience, baseball was honored by the United States Mint in 2014 with its first-ever curved coin. Today, you can buy the 2014-P $1 Baseball Hall of Fame Silver Coin online at Provident Metals in near-perfect condition.
To produce its first-ever curved silver coin, the United States Mint sought the technical assistance and advice of both the Perth Mint and Royal Australian Mint. When first issued, the three curved coins the US Mint issued honoring the Baseball Hall of Fame came with surcharges that were authorized to be paid to the National Baseball Hall of Fame to support that organizations efforts to preserve the history of the game in this country.
The obverse face of the 2014-P $1 Baseball Hall of Fame Silver Coin includes a concave, sunken surface with a depiction of a fielding glove. Inscriptions on this face of the coin include Liberty, In God We Trust, and the date mark of 2014.
On the reverse side of 2014-P $1 Baseball Hall of Fame Silver Coins is a depiction of a baseball complete with two of the stitched seams. This field of the coin is convex, or domed, and perfectly captures the round appearance of a baseball. Inscriptions on this side include United States of America, E Pluribus Unum, and One Dollar.
The United States Mint issued three options in this first-ever domed coin release honoring the National Baseball Hall of Fame. These included a $5 proof gold coin, this $1 proof silver coin, and a Half Dollar silver clad coin. These silver coins actually have 90% silver content and 10% copper.
This 2014-P $1 Baseball Hall of Fame Silver Coin is in PR69 condition. Coins with this grade have full, original mint luster with a maximum of two minor detracting flaws. Examples of acceptable flaws at this level include only minuscule contact marks or hairlines. The DCAM label indicates the coins have strong, frosted designs and deeply-mirrored, clear fields.
