Shenandoah National Park became fully authorized in December of 1935. The park makes up a portion of the Blue Ridge Mountains and its highest peak is 4,051 feet on Hawksbill Mountain. Nearly 40 percent of the park is labeled as wilderness and protected by the National Wilderness Preservation System.
