The 2014-W Proof American Eagle 1/2 oz Gold Coin was manufactured and produced by the West Point Mint using 22 karat gold. This coin was actually made with a combination of different metals, creating the perfect balance of gold (91.67%), copper (5.33%), and silver (3%). A special proof finish is also included on this coin, meaning that the background appears mirror-like while the designs are frosted. This type of finish offers great visual contrast for the viewer.

History

The American Gold Eagle Coin series began in 1986, but it wasn’t until 1987 when the Philadelphia Mint first released -ounce weight denominations for the collection. Up until 1993, all fractional coins in this series were manufactured at the Philadelphia Mint. However, in the years following 1993, the production of all coins from this series transferred to the West Point Mint permanently.

Reverse

An image of an eagle family is shown on the reverse of the 2014-W Proof American Eagle 1/2 oz Gold Coin. This design was created by Miley Busiek and shows a male eagle flying overhead with his wings outstretched wide. He carries an olive branch in his talons and approaches the nest, where a female eagle waits with her eaglets. There are certain specs of the coin also included on the reverse, such as its weight, purity, value, and origin country.
