The Proof American Eagle offered by Provident Metals is the official collectible version of the nation’s silver bullion coin. Originally designed in 1986, this coin features a unique reverse by John Mercanti and showcases the iconic Walking Liberty design from the 1916 Half Dollar. It holds great significance at the United States Mint. Now, you have the opportunity to purchase the 2014-W Proof American Eagle 1 oz Silver Coins in near-perfect condition online from Provident Metals.
Highlights:
As of 2023, the 2014 release of the Proof American Eagle holds the fourth-highest mintage in the program’s history. A total of 944,757 coins were sold, making it a significant release. It follows the 1986 debut issue, the 2006 20th-anniversary issue, and the 2011 issue, which experienced high demand due to pent-up demand and the Great Recession.
Obverse
The obverse of the 2014-W Proof American Eagle Silver Coin showcases the famous Walking Liberty design. Created in 1916 by Adolph A. Weinman, this design captures Liberty in left-profile relief. Liberty is depicted walking towards the sun on the horizon, with her right hand outstretched and the American flag draped around her figure. Inscriptions read LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST, and 2014.
Reverse
On the reverse side, you’ll find the heraldic eagle design. John Mercanti designed this image specifically for the series in 1986. The eagle is shown with the US national shield, the arrows of war, and the olive branch of peace. Inscriptions include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, 1 OZ. FINE SILVER, ONE DOLLAR, and the W mint mark.
History
Demand for Proof Silver Eagles often surges around anniversary dates. While the 2014 issue was close to the upcoming 30th-anniversary issue in 2016, it marked the last peak in the series. It benefited from a lingering demand stemming from the Great Recession, but later witnessed a decline in demand alongside the overall demand for Silver Eagles.
Ordering
These 2014-W Proof American Eagle 1 oz Silver Coins are available in near-perfect condition. PR69 coins exhibit full, original mint luster with a maximum of two minor flaws. These flaws are limited to minuscule contact marks or hairlines and are located outside the primary focal points. DCAM coins are proof specimens with deeply-mirrored, clear fields and a distinct, frosted design.
