The Royal Canadian Mint is known for creating some of the most beautiful coins in the world. When the RCM created the 1.25 oz Canadian Bison Silver Coins, they were the first of their size on the market from the mint. These unique coins are made with .9999 fine silver and measure 38 mm in diameter. The RCM gave these coins a legal tender value of $8 (CAD). Right now, you can purchase the 2015 $8 Canadian Bison 1.25 oz Silver Coin from Provident Metals in MS69 condition.

Highlights:

  • Ships in PCGS plastic slabs for protection!
  • Limited availability of MS69 FS graded coins!
  • Each coin contains 1.25 Troy oz of .9999 pure silver.
  • Given a face value of $8 (CAD) backed by the Canadian government.
  • Graded a near-perfect MS69 by the Professional Coin Grading Service.
  • Part of the First Strike series.
  • Minted by the Royal Canadian Mint.

All of the coins in this listing were given a Mint State 69 grade. These means that the coins have never been circulated and that they still have all of their original mint luster. Coins in this condition will have only minuscule imperfections. These coins were given the First Strike designation, which means that they were received by PCGS within a month of their official release date.

Obverse

On the obverse face of each of these coins, you will see the image of Queen Elizabeth II, the reigning monarch of Great Britain. In this image, Her Majesty can be seen in right-profile relief wearing her signature pearl necklace and earrings.

Reverse

The image on the reverse side of these coins is that of a bison. This creature is seen as it charges through the open fields of Canada. You can even see the bisons textured fur as it runs.

History

The Royal Canadian Mint was founded in 1908 as the Ottawa branch of the Royal Mint, which creates coinage for Great Britain. During the Great Depression, the Ottawa Mint negotiated its independence from the Royal Mint, and it was renamed the Royal Canadian Mint in 1931.
