The state of Louisiana is best-known for its marshes and bayous, but like many states in the Union it has more than one natural ecosystem. Kisatchie National Forest in the northern part of the state actually protects an ecosystem within the state that is considered part of the much larger Central Plains of the United States. Today, you have a chance to get the 2015 ATB Kisatchie 5 oz Silver Coin online at Provident Metals with an NGC certification included.

Kisatchie National Forest is the only national forest in the state of Louisiana and protects more than 604,000 acres of land in the north-central region of the state. Far from the bayous that criss-cross southern Louisiana, Kisatchie National Forest protects a vast, forested habitat that includes flatwoods vegetation and the vital longleaf pine.

Obverse

President George Washington is depicted on the obverse of the 2015 ATB Kisatchie 5 oz Silver Coin in left-profile relief. This design was created in 1932 by John Flanagan for the US Mint to use on the US quarter. Washingtons bust was placed on the quarter in honor of the 200th anniversary of his birth and it replaced the Standing Liberty quarter design that had been there from 1916 to 1930.

Reverse

A wild turkey is shown in flight low above the Eastern Bluegrass plains of Kisatchie National Forest on the reverse face of the 2015 ATB Kisatchie 5 oz Silver Coin. The longleaf pine, a species of tree that has declined greatly in the last century, is featured in the background behind the turkey.

History

President Herbert Hoover designated the Kisatchie National Forest as publicly protected land in 1930. In addition to protecting a vital habitat in the state, the national forest also includes some of the oldest rocks found in the state of Louisiana, many of which date to the Cenozoic period.

Ordering

These 2015 ATB Kisatchie 5 oz Silver Coins are near-perfect specimens with a Mint State 69 certification. Coins in this condition have full, original mint luster and a maximum of two minor detracting flaws. Those flaws are limited to minuscule contact marks or hairlines at this grade level. Each coin also has an Early Release label indicating the specimens were received for grading within 30 days of the initial release. DPL stands for deep proof-like and means these coins have certain proof features such as frosted elements and/or mirror-like fields.
